The bright green colours of the beech forests with various lichen, mosses and ferns, to the sub alpine vegetation including the mt cook buttercup and the south island edelweiss.

Home also to some of NZ's most endangered bird species. 

 

 

As you walk the Routeburn you pass by a large variety of different Flowers and Plants.

 

Flowers and Plants


Beech forest dominates the Routeburn Track. Mainly Red, Silver and Mountain Beech. The sub canopy consists of a wide variety of smaller Broadleaf trees.

The Routeburn Track is home to some of NZ's most endangered Birds eg: Rock Wren, Whio, Mohua
However there is no shortage of sandflies.
